Speaking as a Dexter fan who DOES NOT HAVE SHOWTIME, I feel the attempt to transition a show like Dexter to public TV is a big mistake. Dexter is edgy, spooky, sexy, dirty-mouthed, voilent, bloody, and clever; the best things about this show are being cut out to make it 'CBS appropriate' and it is completely pointless. I do not have Showtime, and I find it very easy to keep-up with the show; Dvds, visiting a friends house to watch, or online streams at various sites make it simple. This TV-crime is just as bad as when they put 'Sex in the City' on TBS; we lose the best parts of the show, which make it the show that it is! In addition, people who have never viewed the 'unrated' original version of Dexter will have a COMPLETELY different (and incorrect) take on the show. Boo CBS. Boo.

I don't have ShowTime, and if not for it being on regular T.V. I never would have seen it and been hooked. Things on Canadian T.V. aren't cut to hell like on American T.V. We're allowed to hear a dirty word and to see a boob here and there. Anyway, you can find anything you want online, so trying to keep a show anywhere is not happening. I have bought all the books and both seasons. I like it that much.

I will agree that the Showtime verison is better than CBS. (With the Sho one you actually get the full story.) But without it showing on CBS I would have never found it. Now I own the first season, the first two books, and I can't wait to see the second season. Unfortunatly I cannot get Showtime because my mother doesn't want me to have it so I'm stuck with just buying the dvd's and hoping CBS will show the second season. I can totally understand how the CBS verison kinda kills it, but I had no other choice but to watch it there.

But it has cut some of it out as can be expected. I take my hat off to CBS for the great job they did at keeping it intact as much as they did. So, like you say if they had not shown it you as well as a lot of people would not have. It is a great, or at least a well done program, and the story is amazing. I think alot of us do feel that we are or have gained sympathy for a serial killer. But it is sort of like we have gained insight into the mind of a serial killer. If what we are watching is true as I am sure a true serial killer is not going to come forward and expound on the accuracy of this program. It does make me wonder how the writers did their research though. I really like the show and I am by no means a serial killer, unless you consider flys and ants a part of this. The show is so well written, and so well acted, the concept is great. That one can not be drawn into the show, and enjoy it for what it is, that is a well done program. So NukeForever, welcome and enjoy.

Cbs is a family network so let it be that. I watch SHO shows because I want real adult entertainment if i want to watch a show about a serial killer. I want to see someone pissed off and killing people and the journey into a tormented mind. Not a fluffy murder mystery show i think there is already plenty of those. The shows being on SHO is what sets them apart and make them so good. Let CBS show reality shows, family comedys, and crime dramas. Keep the real adult entertainment where it belongs!

"Blast! Because I can't download due to I have Dial-up and don't have I tunes and I live in High Desert and no cable available up here and can't afford the sattalite fee to connect to DSL and plus there is only one company up here that we can choose from and we don't like it at all. So I guess we'll have to wait till I can buy it. Thank you all any way unless you hear a good fortune that CBS will put it on again as a filler. Please CBS....." You can pre-order it on Amazon.com, for $25.99 (plus shipping) and they will send it to you when it is released supposedly on August 19th. Be advised that the last time I ordered something through them that was to be released at a certain date, it wasn't actually released until almost a month later. Your best bet is to get someone with a fast connection to download it and burn it to a double layer DVD. Also you should know that is they get it from iTunes it downloads as m4v files, which Mac users have no trouble viewing, but I'm not sure if you can view those in a Windows environment other than through iTunes.

The only difference I saw was that they voice over the swearing, but they pull that off well enough. I loved "I'm gonna watch you, motherlover."

I borrowed the DVD of Season 1 (since I don,t have Showtime), and then watched season 1 on CBS. Showtime is better, but it's not completely dreadful on CBS

I thought this page was supposed to help people watching the CBS version understand what they are missing from the Showtime version. So far, only 3 episodes have aired, and people are writing (nonsensical) comments about season 2, which probably won't even air on CBS. How can you compare how CBS does things if they haven't even aired the particular content people are writing about? I think the last two comments should be deleted, especially the last one. But I don't want to offend the people that posted them...what does everyone think?

If I may offer the opinion of a new CBS viewer...I think the concern over spoilers is a non-issue. When I joined this Wiki I knew there would be discussion about both versions, all the episodes etc. and it didn't really matter. If I happen to come across something I didn't know or haven't seen yet, for me it just adds to the whole "Dexter experience". There are so many nuances in both the writing and the visuals, that you can't appreciate it all in just one viewing. I find the wiki helpful in filling in details I may have missed. It's not the end of the world to find out about a future episode, the show is about so much more than just the suspense of a traditional police procedural. The way I see it, it's kind of like when someone complains about something they see on TV, well...just change the channel??? It's the same with this wiki, if you don't like what you read, well...just log-off. I think everybody should feel free to write about whatever they want. Nuff said.

I don't believe Showtime has announced the date that the new season will air. But the only reason they even aired Dexter on CBS is because of the writer's strike. CBS was running out of anything new to air.

This Sunday is the 3rd episode for us 'newbies', let's not be afraid to ask the 'veterans' for their advice and opinions. I have found them to be very helpful and friendly. But before you ask a question--make sure you are not asking about info already available on the wiki et.al.. We don't want to waste anyone's time or try their patience. The kind of questions should be more about theory or opinion, not facts that are readily available. I have already read some fascinating theories on this wiki that were written by 'vets'. So let's watch on Sunday and see if anyone has any new theories or can add an opinion about existing ones!

"I don't know why us people who have been with Dexter since it premiered in 2006 are being called "Veterans". I don't think of Dexter as a battleground, because I love it so. If it were a battleground, I still wouldn't be a veteran, because I'd still be on an active tour of duty, fighting the good fight. I ain't a "veteran" of Dexter till it's canceled.
Oh and also, yes you newbies can trust us old timers. Can't imagine any question's you'd have. Most likely any answer we give would just end up being a spoiler. So here's a few things you may want to know before you have to ask:
Season three probably comes out in September Season two probably comes out on DVD a month before that Yes you should buy the DVD's instead of watching edited versions on CBS Yes, I am awesome" I don't know why I tried watching it on CBS (i guess im considered a "veteran" and have seen all the episodes on shotime repeatedly) but I agree that you should try and stay away from the CBS version. You miss out on too much stuff that is important to the show. I only watched the first episode on CBS and was very disappointed by the amount removed from the show. Go ahead and buy the DVD's.

"actually i have the 1st season on dvd seen it several times, and they are actually following the script the only thing they did from what i saw in last nights episode was all the bad words we're censored like "freak", "mother lover" that one was hilarious, and deb: "are you dating her", instead of "are you f***ing her" took the whole comedy of it but I already knew they were going to do that. but just to answer your question episode 1 on cbs was the same episode 1 we saw premiere on showtime in 2006." Thank you so much for answering my question. Like I said I just did not pay attention to the first couple of episodes. I started watching the show only cuz I thought my wife would like it. But who is the addict now, well it is not her. It is me. BUT I did not really get into until the ice ricnk episode. That is the one I remember as my first episode. So everything before that was a blur, and not committed to memory. From that one on I have a pretty good recollection of how it went. My wife has no real memoery of any of them. Go figure. Any way thanks again.
