is dexter changing from a serial killer to a vigilante?

iin season one dexter is determined to kill somone every so often and he happens to go for killers. in season two he starts to question his dark passenger and if or how he can overcome it. In the end he starts to see his killings as a legacy of good deeds and his code as optional. In season three his thoughts and feelings start to focus more on punishing killers than the actual act of killing and he seems to be killing less people. In season four it becomes very obvious how much the person's guilt or innocence is important to dexter. It seems to be a question of morality more so than the act of following the code. I am wondering is dexter becoming more like the punisher and less like true serial killers? In season 1 dexter is tempted to kill deb and run away with his brother on a killing spree. In season 4 he is tortured by killing the innocent s and m guy and the thought of letting trinity live has yet to occur to him. Would love some input.

What is happening is Dexter is becoming a whole person. Because he spent so much time isolating others he never learned to care about/ be compassionate for them. This is where harry made a mistake. No one is completely without feeling, emotion or regret. Some people do not have the ability to feel the same way that others so, and some people have a very limited range of shallow emotions.

realize that Dexter is not really that torn over killing an innocent man. He is surprised that he was wrong, he has a bit of remorse..but most of what we see him showing Trinity of that remorse is faked.

If Dexter had been encouraged to really integrate into society instead of hang in the shadows he may have turned out differently. Notice that he said that he "needs to stab someone right now" In the last episode. This ishows he still has the same needs/wants as he had before. He is just trying to really live life and enjoy it as opposed to letting out his dark side.

In conclusion we started the season with Dexter seeing the likeness in himself to the trinity killer, feeling a morbid sense of connection, with perhaps a few less survival skills to learn from him... or so we thought. It seems like Dexter is beginning to realize how deep the Trinity's camouflage really goes, exposing how insecure, emotional, and controlling he really is. The locks on the doors and physical inflictions to his son only further indicate that Trinity only controls his life through fear, instead of the original concept that he could live an open exposed life with his family. It seems more like Trinity is Schizophrenic or Bi-polar with his severe mood swings, in comparison to Dexters calm and rational "Sociopathic" behavior. Once Dexter realizes how weak Trinity really is he wont have too much use to keep him around. But I'm sure at some point Trinity will try to control Dexter, but because Dexter cannot be manipulated by fear that Trinity will have to find a new way to gain control, and perhaps Quinns meddling and nosing around into Dexters life will be just the prescription to the tall order. What will Dexter do once he finds out that Trinity didn't shoot Deb? It's not like he can't relate to his new "friend"? He did take care of the problem of Lunday after all...

only a few more episodes left until we find out!

One question remains the biggest of all... WHAT IS RITA'S SECRET?
Perhaps her first husband mysteriously died... a good reason not to bring up the topic. Maybe Dexter will have to take Rita out at The very end of series, or maybe they will be the perfect couple after all, but for now Dex needs the camouflage of a family, lets just hope Rita doesn't screw it up with the neighbor.

Still think Manson was the worse of Mental serial killers

These guys are good or bad should I say, but Manson, he supposedlly didn't kill anyone, but manipulated all the people around him to do his bidding. I think is a much worse serial killer then the ones that do the killing, what do you think?
