| EPISODE 10: "There's Something About Harry" Episode summary:As it turned out, Dexter was not deeply shot in his leg, but suffered a large graze wound. It caused him plenty of discomfort, but was not so incapacitating that he has to explain anything yet. Doakes meanwhile taunted Dexter, telling him he only had two choices - kill him or let him go, and Dexter struggled with his biggest predicament yet. A lot of what Dexter decided to do next came from him thinking about the people he cared about - Deb, Rita and the kids. In voiceover he noted "I've been selfish, only thinking about what happens to me, but if I were revealed as the Bay Harbor Butcher, Rita and the kids would be destroyed" and later he also mused on what it would do to Deb. First Dexter threatened to kill Doakes, in a sequence that took a clever twist after we learned that Dexter's real motive was in fact to get Doakes' fingerprints on Bay Harbor Butcher murder weapons, which he did by spiking Doakes' water. Dexter kicking those weapons into the water, in a place he knew they'd be found, definitely confirmed his decision to go all the way and possibly condemn Doakes to life in prison or death, assuming those weapons are used to convict him. We learn that Harry did not die because of heart problems or hardening arteries, but actually committed suicid. This revelation, made by Captain Matthews, has an effect on Dexter. He confides in Rita at the beach while Angel plays with his daughter and Rita's kids. Deb and Lundy seem to have their first relationship tiff, when they speak about what is going to happen after the Bay Harbor butcher case is resolved. Deb gleans the impression that Lundy sees the relationship ending when the BHB case ends. They have a lunch date to talk, and Deb tells Lundy that not knowing if the relationship would grow was exciting to her, that everything was "all possibility." Lundy is visibly affected by her statements, but their tete-a-tete is interrupted by news that Doakes rental car records have turned up, and no commitment statement is made by Lundy. Lila on the other hand was painting her loft with Angel when she decided to sleep with him, telling him that she liked it "rough," and then take the Rhypnol that she had aquired earlier in the day from one of her connections. We see her falling to the floor in the bathroom after she washed the pills down with wine, and Angel calling for an ambulance. The episode ends when Dexter kills his latest victim, a drug dealing, murdering contact of Jimenez's, with Doakes just a few feet away, stuck in his cage. It changes to flashback of Harry walking in on Dexter killing Juan Rinez in the garage. When Harry saw what Dexter had done, he told Dexter to "stay away." Doakes repeats the same phrase to Dexter and asks Dexter: "What Morgan what now?. Dexter says. "I killed my father. " Original air date: 12-2-2007 Written by:Scott Reynolds Directed by:Steve Schill |

This is something that has bothered me for a while since season one, and I still can't figure it out. Does anyone know why Harry adopted Dexter and left Brian Moser?

Was LaGuerta's line to Debra a foreshadowing? Is Deb going to have to decide between her job and her brother?

My heart was racing for the majority of the episode. it was great! It really made me think.
Let's get Deb out of the way. It was a slow week for her. Not much going on there. The development with Rita was really good. It's great how he opened up about what happened to his father to her (although it did come off as a little insincere for me). It looks like they might go back to being non-sexually active too. Who knows? (I guess the writers do). And can you believe that Harry killed himself!? I was really shocked by that. The writers have taken everything I loved about Harry's character (him being the only thing Dexter can truly rely on in the show) and have made him just as morally ambiguous as Dexter himself (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). I didn't like how Harry began to look like a jerk in this season, and it continued through this episode, but the twist about him feeling guilty about what his son was doing could be redemptive in some people's eyes (I just wish he didn't need redeeming in the first place). And the fact that Dexter inadvertently killed Harry actually made me really sad. Our poor boy Dexter... things just don't seem to be getting any easier for him. Speaking of poor boys, poor Doakes! He is a major jerk, and if I had to choose between Dex and him I'd choose Dex, but things Doakes said and his reaction to Dexter in the episode really made me feel sorry for him. Now more than ever, I hope there's a solution to this conflict that doesn't involve Doakes dying. He almost seemed believable with his cries that him and Dexter could work something out. Lila's still a b**ch. Setting Angel up with date rape. What's she thinking!? Everyone loves Angel! In all, this was a great episode, and I am sorry I ever doubted the writer's abilities in the beginning of the season. Previews for next week's look even more intense! Sunday is only 604,800 seconds away! |
