Dexter Episode 6 - "Dex, Lies & Videotape"

Episode summary:Dexter sees an advantage when the police determine that there is a copycat killer on the loose. The bad news is that unless they can locate and stop him, the FBI will take over the Bay Harbor Butcher case completely. He also learns that he was videotaped cleaning his boat at the marina. Since learning that his mother was actually a police informant working for his stepfather, Dexter has been questioning his foster father's motivation in taking him in. Rita's scheming mother suggests that Dexter's NA sponsor, Lila come to dinner. It all goes well but when Rita later learns that Lila accompanied Dexter on his recent road trip, she announces she never wants to see him again. Dexter and Lila find a new way to relieve Dexter's compulsive urges.

    EPISODE TRIVIA

    • Dexter pulls a wall mounted fire alarm pull station as a diversion and then calmly pushes the actuator back in to cover it up. This is not possible with modern pull stations because once the lever is pulled out, the actuator on the station must be reset with a key to allow the fireman to determine which precise alarm was pulled. This also happens with the smoke detectors but in that case a LED remains on to signify which alarm triggered the fire panel.

What did everyone think of the episode? I really, really, really, did not like it. "Dexter" has officially become a soap opera. I cannot STAND Lila at all, and the fact that Dexter had sex with her is bad enough, but whats worse is that Dexter is actually becoming unlikable. He's not half as charming as he use to be, he says things that make him look like a jerk, and in the span of one episode he went from caring deeply about Rita to not at all. If the writers wanted me to actually hate Dexter, then they did a fine job!

My biggest complaint about the show is things are getting so ridiculous and out of control for Dexter, that the solution to it all (to get things back to at least close-to normal like I assume will happen, if they want a season three) will have to be even more ridiculous, and most likely be unbelievable. Doakes is obsessed with him, Rita broke up with him, each episode they get closer to finding "The Bay Harbor Butcher", Rita's mom hates him, Lila seems obsessed with him, he doesn't think he wants to kill anymore, etc... The writers are making too much happen to him at once, and yet with all this confusion going on, Dexter just wants to run into Lila's arms (or perhaps her legs)? Thats not the Dexter I fell in love with last year. I definately do not like the way to show is going

Is this striking a chord with anyone? Or am I the only one who is extremely disappointed with the show this season?

ps- I don't like that they're making Harry seem like a jerk this season. I want the old, wise Harry, not the manipulative, adulterer one. I need SOMETHING wholesome to hold on to.

are all these pornographic scenes, especially with lila's breasts, a marketing tool? if so, they're acting more as a turn-off to me. i understand the mass appeal of over dramatic plot lines but what makes this show is its ability to be unconventional. the more pornographic and violent it becomes, the more mainstream and unoriginal it will be. that is not the appeal of dexter. for now, i still love it, michael c. hall is so talented.
