Episode summary:
 Dexter grapples with what to do with his new found friend, Miguel, who thinks he is clued in to Dexter’s vigilante ways. So Dexter decides to test him to see how far he wants to go. Dexter reveals that he’s always wanted to bring a violent white supremacist who is already in jail, to his brand of ‘justice.’ Thinking this will force Miguel to back away, Dexter is surprised to find that Miguel is not only on board, but he has a daring strategy to complete Dexter’s dark plan. Simultaneously, Rita gets fired from her job, leaving her wondering if she will ever have a real career. Debra is upset when she realizes she may be partially responsible for another mysteriously skinned homicide case she’s trying to solve.

CLUES TO DEXTER'S PAST
  • Dexter is sunbathing poolside at his apartment when Harry appears to warn him against trusting Miguel with his secrets. Dexter defends Miguel and brusquely dismisses Harry. He cautions Dexter that Miguel will never be able to truly accept him.
  • Harry appears to Dexter again, this time wearing the familiar "kill suit" that Dexter sports. Again he urges Dexter to distance himself from Miguel.
  • Dexter suddenly doubts Miguel's intentions when Miguel sends the police out into the parking garage where he is hiding out with his next victim. Harry confronts Dexter in an "I told ya so" way and tells him that Miguel has set him up. Dexter's fierce faith in Miguel forces Harry's image to disappear just as Miguel comes to Dexter's aid.
  • Dexter continues to converse with (dead) Harry, showing how much Dexter misses having Harry in his life as a sounding board. Explains Dexter having pursued so many new relationships since Harry died. Dexter misses his dad.

SIGNIFICANCE OF EPISODE TITLE


The title is a Spanish phrase that translates to "Yes it can be done". It was penned as the motto for the United Farm Workers by Cesar Chavez in 1972. More recently, it was used as a campaign slogan (albeit the English translation of "Yes We Can") for President-Elect Barack Obama. As for the relevance to this episode, it speaks for the growing partnership between Miguel and Dexter. Dexter has invested a phenomenal amount of trust in Miguel and it appears that they have forged a viable "working" relationship.
  • Dexter visits Camilla Figg in the hospital as she is dying of lung cancer. He hand feeds her Key-Lime pie, though she contests that it isn't the best she's had.
  • Dexter and Miguel plot the murder of Clemson together. Dexter initially tried to intimidate Miguel by choosing an impossible target for their first team-kill, however Miguel was steadfast and came up with the entire plan himself. Dexter suspects Miguel isn't wanting these murders for justice so much as he does for his own pleasure.
  • "Reason leads to self-preservation: a potent force" -Dexter trying to dissuade Miguel from plotting a risky kill.

Its hard to believe we're half way through our third season of Dexter. It feels like we've only just begun. I'm already predicting this will be the second best season (at least out of the three so far).

Is Harry right? Should Dexter not be trusting Miguel? My initial thought is yes. Somebody in Dexter's line of work should be working alone. Some believe Miguel is just setting Dexter up, and that he is going to stab Dexter in the back (no pun intended), however I don't feel that way. I think Miguel's motives are pure (as pure as a wannabe killer's motives can be). I think he genuinely just wants to be Dexter's friend.

However that is not a reason to trust him. We see in this episode he is starting to become a wreck. He's losing sleep, neglecting his wife, and the preview for next week leads us to believe he's going to ask Dexter to kill Ellen Wolf, an innocent woman. Dexter'd be wise to pull out of this relationship fast (although we all know he won't because if he did, there would be no show).

Where was Masuka this episode? He had one line I think. Rita was missing majorly in this episode also.

Angel and that Vice lady are hooking up. Good for them. Speaking of hooking up, Deb and Anton are getting uncomfortably close to doing just that. Am I in the minority when I say I don't want it to happen. Its just TOO predictable.

Ramon is out of control, and for a little bit, I thought he might be the skinner. I'm glad he isn't. The show should avoid the "the killer is right under our nose" aspect since its been done two seasons in a row. I'm hoping its gonna be somebody we don't know yet. Or at least Anton (I really don't want to like that guy).

Poor Camilla. It was sweet Dexter fed her. Will she divulge important information regarding Harry?

Also, when will I see the ghost of Doakes? I miss him.
