EPISODE 3.7: "Easy As Pie"

Easy as Pie

Episode summary:
Miguel offers Dexter a new potential victim, but after properly vetting her, Dexter isn’t sure she fits the Code. When he informs Miguel of this, he reacts with anger, making Dexter believe the new friendship is in danger. An old sickly friend of Dexter’s, Camilla, reinforces this idea, when she asks Dexter to help end her life, insisting she would never ask a friend to do something against his conscience. Meanwhile, Rita finds out that Sylvia is beginning to suspect her husband, Miguel, is having an affair. Debra ends up revealing to Anton that he is being used as bait to lure the Skinner, forcing her to find new way to find the Skinner. As a result, Anton realizes Debra cares for him more than he thought.

DAY DREAMS
CLUES TO DEXTER'S PAST
  • Dexter imagines he is killing somebody and that he is interupted by Miguel. The scene mirrors the scene where Harry caught Dexter killing the pimp in season two, but this time Miguel comes instead of Harry. Dexter expects Miguel to be disgusted like Harry was, but of course Miguel is un-phased.

  • Camilla reveals that she knew the "Ice Truck Killer" was Dexter's brother. Dexter pretends to be shocked, but later reveals that he knew and killed him.
  • Camilla gives Dexter a box of old photographs of him, Debra, Harry, and herself. This shows Camilla has been close to the Morgan family since Dex was a least a teenager.

DEXTER'S RELATIONSHIPS
DEVELOPMENTS WITH RITA
INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS
  • Rita and Dexter plan their wedding list and Rita won't let Dexter invite "The Donut Guy" because he doesn't know his name.
  • Rita suspects that Dexter and Miguel had a fight. In response to Dexter's reluctance to talk about it, Rita assures him that he is a good friend to Miguel, and that all friends have fights.

SIGNIFICANCE OF EPISODE TITLE

'Easy as pie' is a phrase that incorporates both Camilla's longing for a good piece of key lime pie, and the relative ease with which Dexter assisted in her death. He injected a lethal dose of sedative right into a piece of pie, which to Camilla, was the best way to go.
  • Miguel firsts suggests, and then flat out demands that Dexter kill Ellen Wolf because she has a personal vendetta against him. When Dexter refuses, Miguel blows up in his face causing Dexter to make a hasty exit.
  • Miguel and Dexter make up when Ellen shows that she does have a conscience and aids in turning in her guilty client. Miguel concedes that Dexter was right in not wanting to kill her.
  • Dexter mercifully kills Camilla Figg at her request by injecting sodium pentothal into a piece of Key Lime pie. At first he is hesitant and refuses, but then has a change of heart.
  • Angel and Vince ask Dex which of them he has decided will be his best man. Dexter of course has no idea how to handle the situation.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS
BEST MOMENTS
BEST LINES

  • " Fucking Albert Chung ! " (numererous players)
  • "He's so tan." (Dexter)
  • "The donut guy? If you don't know his name he can't come." (Rita)

Anybody else get the feeling that Ellen Wolf is a lesbian? I think she has the hots for LaGuerta. There is this odd sexual tension between the two during their secret, off the record rendezvous. Wouldn't it be a trip if LaGuerta hooked up with her? I mean, I thought for sure in the very beginning that LaGuerta and Prado would somehow get together, but they are clearly not as "close" as they used to be. Come on, the booze...the secrey...the mutual disdain for men in power....

So Camilla didn't have any sort of mega break-through regarding Harry to share with Dexter, although she did know all about the true identity of the Ice Truck Killer. That's all well and good I suppose, but I was hoping for something a little more revealing.

And I suppose I should've seen this coming, but I was sort of let down when Dex asked Miguel to be his best man. Why couldn't Masuka or Angel have done it? You've only known this guy for like five weeks! I have to say I STILL think Miguel won't be around for too much longer so I don't think he'll actually get to be his best man.

Deb and Anton finally showed their affection for one another. Yuck! Am I seriously the only person who doesn't like Anton? I'd say he's the skinner but I think that's wishful thinking.

Masuka looking like Albert Chung: Unnecessary telecasting or wacky foreshadowing? Who can tell?

Is the skinner really a tree trimmer? I admit the trimmers from before definitely did act suspicious, but I figured it was too early and seemed to obvious that it just couldn't have been them. And what would the tree trimmers care about an investigation on Freebo anyway? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I usually write these things immediately after I watch the episode, but its been almost a day now and I'm afraid I have forgotten all the juicy details of it. You guys should write in your favorite parts or thoughts you had about it.
