Well... although for the first several episodes of the initial season, all I could think about Deb was "mis-cast"... however, since, I must say that Jennifer has won me over. Yes, her smoking aesthetic doesn't hurt, but don't rip her talent just yet. The character as written by both Lindsay and the Showtime staff is very cheesy and over the top, even adolescent, and Jennifer has interjected credence and validity all on her own.

The best example of her range is demonstrated in one of my favorite segments from the end of season two... where Dexter visualizes in his head all the possible emotional responses his sister would have to his confession. It cracks me up every time.

Carpenter is absolutely brillant; showing a character following her own instincts and developing her own theories, participating in brother-sister emotional tug-of-war (okay, somewhat lop-sided), giggling like a schoolgirl at the attentions of Lundy, etc. I look forward to seeing her in other roles, but hope, obviously that Dexter takes up a lot of her time at least for a while longer!
