| "Living the Dream" is precisely what Dexter thought he'd be doing now that he as a family, however he's finding that the reality of having a family is much more difficult than even he imagined.
Dexter decided to get married and have a family in large part as a rebellion against Harry, since he knew Harry wouldn't approve and at the time did not look upon the memory of Harry favorably.In "Love American Style" (S04E01), Dexter reveals to Rita that his only real goal in life is to be content, and be normal like everyone else (a dream in which Rita shared).
Rita asks Dexter in the beginning of the episode how much, exactly, Dexter thinks the two of them are "living the dream". With feigned smile and enthusiasm, Dexter replies, "So much!". |
