Frankly I wasn't that sad to see Doakes meet his demise at the end of Season 2, given that his obsession with tracking Dexter had become just downright annoying. The suspense of waiting to see how Dexter would deal with him nearly killed me! (Oh and I cheered a little when Dexter head-butted him and sparked the fight that got him put on leave)

I left the recording of Dexter head-butted Doakes I jumped up and cheered shouting "Go for it Dex!" Then the way he switched to the mode of victim pretending to be scared of him had me laughing my back end off! Eric King is a great actor though.

"I have to give them both equal doses of Brains and Brawn. Doakes has the Peanut Muscles that pop up with definition, while Dex is no Bookish Nerd even though that is what Doakes wants us to think. Dex has good muscle tone and it is obvious that he has worked out a time or two. I still say it is not Brawn vs Brains. It is A Bully that can not beat up the Geek. Doakes thinks he is all powerful. but Dex has the hidden weapon, as he is unassumeing, and has as much power as Doakes just not pumped up like Doakes.
Doakes is no dumby, He knows that Dexter is not what he appears. he is just a Bully and will not shut up or stop harrassing him to figure it out. If were as easy as a contrast of Brain vs Brawn. I wonder if Dex has more brawn as he did beat up Doakes three times that I remember. Doakes had not been able to physically take Dex ever. It is obvious that Dexter has more skills and maybe more brawn as he did win the battles between them." humm.. good point, he is no dumby for sure, after all, presumably he was the only one in the entire department that had an instinct/intuition for Dex being up to something, whereas nobody else seemed to. But relatively speaking, he 'is' not more clever than Dex.. he's also very jumpy.. i.e. still not clear (to me) re what really happened under the bridge.

Anybody remember the specifics for Doakes' obsession with Dex? I watched the entire season and know that Doakes has always been leery of him but I can't remember what tipped Doakes to start stalking Dex and it is driving me nuts! Any contributions to helping me retain my sanity would be much appreciated...lol

Doakes tells Dex that he is wierd and that there is something strange about him. and he was going to find out what it was. He had noted that Dexter seemed to know a lot about certain things, and Doakes wondered why anyone could be interested in being a blood splater specialist. I think that Doakes does not like Dex's career choice, and does not consider him a ligitamate part of police work. At any rate he is one of those people that does not accept other people for being who they are, he is a bully, and if he does not like something he will tell you, The only friends he has are mercinaries and are not the type of people that you want as your friends. (So to speak). I am sure they are nice people but they are military types that know more about killing than being a politician. If you know what I mean.

Doakes n Dex are both killers which is why doakes can see something behind the mask we call Dexter.Yet I think Dex also sees past doakes who I'm sure has many skeletons in his own closet.[no pun intended]. Guess it takes one to know one eh?

Dexter kills because he has to, he kills criminals because he abides by his Harry (Dexter's god's) rules. Doakes kills because he believes he has the moral high-ground and feels justfied in the role of executioner

I think Doakes is sealing his own fate by his actions and the toes he is stepping on. Being in possesion of the slides is probably another nail in his coffin.

First time because of Dexter being at the docks. He was busted for lying about running his brother's blood and finding out he was the ice truck killer before everyone else. The Lt defend him but Stoakes never did. THe second time because he mention Dexter's "Addiction" to Debra, and she didn't back it up. "Dexter has never even had a cigerette," she said.
