Harry's Code? Oh please!
The tapes that Dexter listened to with Harry promising Dexter he would never let anything happen the boys is what put the Code into question with Dexter.
On the positive side, you could say that Harry-- a. kept Dexter in his home despite his wife's protestations b. recognized Dexter's dark side but didn't heap guilt blame on him c. provided Dexter with a few ironclad principles to do "good" with his urges d. spent as much time with his adopted son as he did with his daughter -- though some are suggesting that Dex is Harry's biological son e. he taught Dexter survival skills
But you're right; not sure Harry is the paragon of virtue ...

How Will Dexters Code Differ from Harry's Code?
Now we are seeing that Dexter has realized just what Harry was and that his teachings may have flaws, or at least he has misgivings in Harry's Code. Dexter will modify the Code to be more suited to himself.
I wonder how he will change the Code and what he will keep from the old code.

Does Debra Know Harry's Code?
Harry's code was developed for Dexter to look normal so he will blend in. I would think that Debra has her own teachings from Harry that she uses to be normal also.

The Code of Harry: Did Harry foresee Dexter's dark side?
"Did Harry know what his son would become?" Harry knew. That is why he taught him "the code." He was preparing him.

What do you think of the Code of Harry?
I agree with you. Mostly... One of the most brilliant aspects of the show for me is that the very premise of Harry's relationship with Dexter and the code he instills is so deeply conflicting. On the one hand, as a mother of two, I can see how a parent would take extreme measures to protect their child from a life of being ostracized, or worse. On the other, Harry essentially turns his son into a (his?) weapon of justice. His own deep sense of outrage with the "system" (creeps like the guy who killed his partner getting off scott-free because of technicalities, etc.) finds convenient retribution in Dexter's psychopathy. But, yes, I LOVE THE SHOW TOO! :)

Will Harry's Code call for Dexter to preemptively kill Lila?
Lila sets fires, caused an ex-boyfriend's demise, and threatens the welfare of Rita and the kids. Her method of finding and keeping love is to resort to extortion. Will Harry's Code call for Dexter to preemptively kill Lila? Is this view too simple?

The Code of... Dexter?
At the end of Season Two, Dexter says that it's no longer Harry's Code. How do you think The Code will change and evolve in Season Three?
Use this thread to discuss.

Do you think you could follow Harry's Code?
If you were in Dexter's shoes could you follow Harry's Code. This is a rather difficult question for me personally. I honestly believe I would buckle. How about you?

Harry too easy
No way, man. This is the time in Dexter's life where he's desperately searching for his father's guidance more than ever (even if it is in his own head), because he has no idea how to juggle family, work and his secret life. Besides, I have a feeling they're setting it up for Dexter to really confront his father's code, since he now realizes TK has been out there doing his thing while maintaining a family for so long, whereas Harry has always told him that he would never be able to make meaningful connections with others.

Harry, Dexter and the Execution
"Was it right for Harry to take a teen-aged Dexter to an execution? Would that have scared Dexter or turned him on? Would it add to Dexter's trauma? Would it feed his need to kill?" I am sure Harry wanted Dexter to see what He was in for if he was ever caught. It may have been an attempt to care him straight. I would like to know when Harry did this. Like was it early on when he first found out Dexter had this fondness for killing, or was it after the Code of Harry was well instituted. If Harry did this at the beginning it may have been to scare him to stop his behavior OR this is what is in store for him. But if it was after Harry realized Dexter was going to do what his Dark Passenger wanted him t do any waythen it was probably to show him what the death penalty was really like. I do not think Dexter was turned on by it. Remember he was having flash backs of it at one point, and it did not look glamourized at all to me. like it was something he looked forward to. I think Dexter learned the lesson well that he is headed for the Death Penalty if he is ever caught. Was it right for Harry to do this, Well he was trying to teach Dexter to not get caught - The number one rule in his code. I do not think it feed his need to kill it probably emballished the need to not get caught. Again I keep saying this and I do believe it. Tha Harry loved Dexter so much he was doing everything in his power to save him, or at least prevent him from being caught. If harry ws doing the rght thing, well I think Harry was in Panik mode. He saw his son going down the wrong road, and harry did not know what to do. So he tried to teach him what to do, and a sort of damage control. Dexter should only kill those that really needed killing. and Dont Get Caught.

Dexter is Harry biological son
I just suggested the same ting on the Code of Harry thread, and I swear I hadn't seen this thread!
Dexter was only 3 when his mom was killed, and we don't know yet how long Harry had been sleeping with her. This explains why Harry saved Dexter and basically tossed Brian out like trash.
It may also be an additional reason why the case file got destroyed. The fewer proveable links from Harry to his son, the better.
I think Dexter should start looking for his "real" dad.
(I really don't like Harry at all.)
