Intro to Season 5 - my thoughts
I am at a loss here . Dexter from season one has always been about that duality , but with Rita's death they have destroyed that . My only guess is that they are shaping up season 5 to be the end . Dexter's last statement would suggest as such too .
I love this show it's by far my favorite piece of media from that last decade and part of that is because it's total left field take , but I would be lying if I said that after four years of watching and caring for these characters that I didn't want to see Dexter try to leave his dark passenger behind and try for a normal life .
I'm saddened by Rita's death not because she was a favorite character because she wasn't but because of what she represented in the show .... hope . Now that has passed and I believe so to soon shall our favorite serial killer too .
Because this is probably the death of whatever was left of Dexter morgan the human and the full release of the dark passenger ... Good for ratings and to pandering of an audience who want's a mindless killing spree , but to the core of this shows literary mechanics .... well I guess that will lay at the bottom of the atlantic as well .
Not sure and disappointed .

And what about Sgt. Doax?..
I like him very much, he is my favorite character after Dexter of course, I like his style, he is very intresting person and he was the only one who`d recognised Dexter`s abnormality so to speak...I couldn`t believe Lila killed him!.. May be, if this kind of thread hasn`t been discussed before..tell me what do you think about Sgt. Doax and his role in Dexter life?..

Why didn't they use the "Lila" route
The writers of Dexter had every opportunity to utilize a gift with the character 'Lila" who was a disposable one.
It would have made a lot of sense to have her some how twist into the shoes of the "Bay Harbor Butcher" which would have then allowed them to keep the tension with Doakes.
Some type of amnesia or brain ????? would have allowed them to keep him without giving up the true identity of the "BHB".
I was disappointed with this season finale. It failed in my book.

Need help from a knowledgable Dexter fan
"Hey there, my name is Jesse, I'm new to the forum.
I need some help from someone who knows the Dexter episodes really well. I'm in grade 12 Psychology, and I'm trying to convince my teacher to show Dexter to our class. It's not a lost hope, I've lent season 1 to my teacher, and he seems to enjoy the show, but what I need is a good episode with clear connections to Psychology. I was thinking maybe of which ever episode it is in Season 1 that mentions Brian's anti-social personality disorder, as well as explaining the origin behind the mental trauma of the two brothers.
Any/all suggestions open and welcome. I also own Season 2, so if anyone thinks of an episode from there, that would be appreciated too. " Dexter is a continuously ongoing study of psychology as far as I'm concerned. I don't think that you can get a totally clear connection from any one episode in particular. Season one shows how Dexter got the way he is from the brutal killing of his mother, but I believe that Brian had those problems before his mother's murder. That may have exacerbated the symptoms in him, but I believe he exhibited that behaviour well beforehand. That's one of the reasons that Harry didn't adopt him with Dexter.
You might want to have your teacher watch both seasons. There are so many different psychological profiles going on besides Dexter's sociopathic behaviour. The teaching of Dexter by Harry to control the dark passenger, the way Deb is and how that relates to both Dexter and Harry. In fact you can get a pretty good psychological profile of almost every main character on the show. I myself think that it is an excellent study in psychology, and that's what drew me in to the show in the first place. I think that besides being highly entertaining, it has tremendous teaching abilities. If I were a teacher, I'd certainly want my class to see it. It would make for some excellent discussions. I know they have studied it in some college classes.
You might also want to ask Tiger 10-8. She is a lot more experienced in psychology and can maybe give you a better perspective or argument to give your teacher.

Preview for next week
All I know is that the previews are freaking me out. The have a short one that shows Dexter in black and white and you hear him say "I've been preparing for this my whole life." I will die if he's actually arrested.
I'm really hoping that somehow the slides get connected to Doakes. I don't think Doakes has any intention of turning him in. If Doakes gets the reports back on the black ops analysis he wants, he'll just kill Dexter. I'm really hoping that they just want Dexter to do an analysis on new evidence.
Sunday is too long to wait. How am I supposed to eat turkey when our boy Dexter might be a dead duck?!

Ms. Benz's expression here - saddening.
I know I could be wrong - this is just instinct driving my message but I appeal to the fact this is fan site and a message board. I personally don't feel this meets the criteria for being censored but I'll understand if the negativity is deemed inappropriate.
That said,
I know faces. Ms Benz is human and humans only have a pocket full of expressions. I thought maybe actors had more. She looks annoyed to me. Maybe she was tired, maybe her hand hurt, but I think a star of a hit show attending a fan-based event should get some good sleep and be prepared to do what it takes to be gracious.
Mike, I know you express lots of enthusiasm for her in our profile. But none of it seems inappropriate to me. And note that my comments here are just thoughts from a guy -- there's a strange sensitivity on message boards which arises from the fact (i think) that when people see things in writing, connect those words with something more than an off-the-cuff opinion.
Well - that's my overly verbose $.02

And true, my mom was the agent (nowadays, the public would call her a "profiler" since she worked with the people we're discussing), but you'd kind of have to assume that being her child, I would have been privy to her manuals, textbooks, etc. Which I've read extensively. Obsession with serial killers and rapists run in the family.
To boot, I graduated with a major in Criminal Psychology from VA Tech (not the best school for that, but it was close to home and my Dad was gravely ill at the time). :)

No, SKs don't always know *why* they're doing it, but they do know that they are doing it. You're talking about something that they desperately need for fulfillment and something that they fantasize about - and sometimes even play out themselves (though not *really* - they'd not kill themselves, of course) using props and effects worthy of Industrial Lights and Magic.
While an SK may not know that those hunting him would consider a certain aspect of the crime a "signature" he certainly knows he's doing it.

If you could write the opening to season 4
I think it should open with Dexter havin a nightmare about Rita losin the baby...he wakes up scared out of his mind for the first time and tells Rita in the mornin maybe u should get a check up and see how lil Dex is doin...Dexter goes to work and finds an E-mail on his laptop....The e-mail subject reads "Its Doakes Motha Fucker"...nah haha maybe like it says from Doakes and the subject line is Why did u kill me?...Dexter freaks out and clicks on it hopin its some weird coincidence or prank...It shows a picture of Doakes face and some mysterious message saying where to meet him...while thats goin on the doctor finds out theres complications with the baby; she goin into early labor and might loose the baby...Dexter shows up at the location lookin around for anybody familiar and sees Dr. Danco walk up to him(guy from Dearly Devoted Dexter)...He says he knows Doakes didnt Kill himself caz he knew Doakes back in his special ops days...he knew who the real Butcher was and will extort Dexter unless he helps him track down somebody...After the lil chat with the Danco he looks for priors on him to see who this guy is and why choose me to find ur guy...Danco's rap sheet checks out clean his code doesnt fit the profile...Dr. Danco also tells Dexter if he helps him he will save his baby...Dexter looks surprised and gets angry on this man knowin this....Danco says "Rita came to me today with early labor complications"...then Dex counters with "theres plenty of good doctors out there, I dont need u to deliver my son"...then Danco takes out a picute of Doakes head shot and says "Hmmm wonder where the gulf stream would take ur recent victims Dexter, hope no one finds them and match them back to the real Butcher"...

"I also misunderstood the contest. I believe 'contest' is one of the words used to describe it. But it also says 'sweepstakes'. They suggested we use our skills to come up with a killler headline, but we may have just written "Man dead" as a headline and had an equal chance to win, since skill, creativity, effort and time invested had no bearing on whether one wins or not. It was a random drawing. Which is fine. Those are the rules. If they have a similar sweepstakes again, I will just write: "Arrgggghh". " I did read all the terms and stuff before I entered the contest, so I was fully aware it was a random contest, however I did still try my best to be creative. I do wish they were more particular about their winner though. Like, actually judging them. And what bugs me the most is all the winners are people I've never even seen on the wiki! None of the regular posters (like anyone on this thread or my weekly "Thoughts on..." thread) even got an editor's choice. I know rules is rules, and I can't really complain because I didn't lose anything by entering, but it does seem a little unfair that us true hardcore Dex fans were all snubbed.

"Thanks to Cyndawg for the info on the books. I'm still deciding on the DVD b/c I kind of like the "suspense" of waiting for a new episode each week and I'm afraid if I get the DVD that I'll watch it all at once. It's great to find a group of people with similar interests. My husband teases me about my interest in crime, mystery, horror etc. in books, TV and movies. I may be back tonight w/ ?s because I have dinner plans and may not be home in time for tonight's episode. Hopefully the wiki info will help with what I miss. After just last week's episode, I am already hooked. I like the fact that in addition to the story line, they flesh out the characters so well. I think that's one of the things that distinguishes Dexter from other shows. Thanks again to all the "veterans" for the info and the welcome:)" Darlin - You have to set your priorities, You actually had a dinner date INSTEAD of Dexter. Now in a week or two, those will change. You will not have anything get in the way og Dexter.
Remember you can order takout and watch it in front of the TV. I am just telling you what is in store for you in the future. I mean you will plan your social events around Dexter. If you were in Labor you would stop it to finish Dexter. You just wait and see. I
