"So far Lundy seems to have not just matched Dexter's hand, but outplayed him. The wild card in this whole thing is Doaks. As of tonight, it looks as if Dex is found out. Dex made a major mistake with sending his writings to the press.Manifesto Big mistake - He wasfeeling to cocky at that time. He definately underestimated Lundy. He did a great job with hs coworkers though, But the FBI Rock Star did not fall for it. I think we are safe in the show going on another season. It seems to have a strong following (Actually Deadwood was popular too and was cancelled) So let me rephrease that, I hope it goes on. So I think you are right, The bay Harbor Butcher will not be found this season. I just thought - I guess there are only two books - So maybe this is it. From what I know about the books though, the second one is not at all like the show. So I guess it does not matter, they can write it any way they want to. Doakes refusal made me wonder that very thing, now if he starts showing all of his evidence thathe found re: dexter. I think it will look like he planted that evidence. I think it is a bad move on Doakes part to have refused. Then I wonder if it is nothing more than his ego paying back Lundy, because Lundy did not want him on the teamat the start. So Doakes is thinking - Screw him - I won't help him at all-. It will be interesting to see hw that works out. 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

" I guess there are only two books - So maybe this is it. From what I know about the books though, the second one is not at all like the show. "There are, at this point, three books ("Dexter in the Dark" is the third), and yes, the show does not follow the books. The third book begins with Dexter getting ready to marry Rita, Lila is not a character in the books, and...well, I won't give anything away for those who want to read the books. The big thing is that in the books there is no Bay Harbor Butcher, which IMHO is what makes the series great. Look at us, we all fear that Dexter is going to be found out. What a great plot element. I think that Dexter on TV may go on forever. The writers constantly amaze me. It may be the best written TV show ever. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I just hope the show didn't peak too soon. Where can they take it after this? Does he just go back to killing and he's learned to cover his tracks even better so he's never in danger again? That seems anti-climactic. On the other hand, I'll be furious if he gets caught. They got rid of the Brian character too soon. The Lila character went to hell almost immediately. I hope they've got a lot of tricks up their sleeves to keep the intensity going that don't involve my Dexter getting caught. I'm too attached to him.

This is the most logical possibility. I personally do not believe that Lundy is a serial killer. That would bring the show too close to jumping the shark. The only way that Doakes would be eliminated by Dex is if Doakes has killed, and I don't mean the guys that he is on suspension for. The only way Dex may find out, is by looking into Doakes' military records. He may find a questionable or mysterious circumstance that could lead to Doakes demise.

I mentioned this on another thread. Suppose Dexter is given access to the FBI database while he's examining the slides? That's the most logical place to find information about Doakes - he worked for the FBI didn't he? That's how he knew about Lundy.

He just knew about Lundy because he's a good cop who might know things like who's the best FBI serial killer guy. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I could be wrong, but I really thought Doakes had been a fed. It would make sense. It's unlikely he would know Lundy otherwise. Profilers don't become generally known unless they write a book and/or make TV appearances. Lundy is kind of the equivalent of John Douglas, who designed the FBI Profiler training program. He wrote a couple of books, but he only rarely appears on TV and then it's usually to point out that the so-called experts the news shows are featuring aren't trained and don't know what they're talking about. Otherwise, he's not what you'd call a "rock star" even though he's the best, and he defined the whole field. We haven't heard anything about Lundy writing books or making appearances, so I think you'd pretty much have to be a Fed to know him.

I just saw the previews for Tomorrows show. Dexter is toast. Lundy wins. At least that is what they want you to believe. I still think Doakes can fall for it though. They lead Dexter in, in hand cuffs, Dex tell Deb he is sorry. Oh My Lord 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I've watched that preview many times. You never see handcuffs- it's only his posture that suggests that when he walks in the door. He says "sorry, Deb" but that could simply mean that they had plans that Dex couldn't make because they called him in. If he had been brought in as a suspect, he'd never be allowed to touch those slides, especially not with gloves. He has to be called in to examine the slides that are somehow intercepted. The whole thing is cut to create maximum angst, but I don't think he's busted. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Love the analysis and respect for characters, but on this question, I keep taking a shortcut. What's the name of the show? Is it Dexter or is it Lundy? Hmmm ... Dexter wins! LOLNot discounting thoughts above, I just can't mentally engage on questions of whether Dexter "survives" or "wins" because no Dexter, no show ... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

All of the cops know about Special Agent Lundy, because he's the "rock star" FBI agent who had solved other famous cold cases and serial murders. Any well read cop would know. Plus, his reputation probably preceded him well before he arrived at Miami PD.Agent Lundy did his own research on the Miami cops he'd be working with before arriving there. Lundy did not like what he saw in Doakes profile, and thereby turned him down for the task force. So, whatever Doakes was -- apparently he has some known issues to other cops. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Very true comments. The writers are hanging us all out there thinking that its impossible for Dex to slip through, but we know he will. Although, I was surprised that they had his brother The Ice Truck Killer written out of the show so fast. But, no Dex, no show. Tru dat! So Dex beats Lundy (and Doakes and Deb) -- but HOW???!!! :)! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I live for the analysis, though - that's the fun part for me. Obviously Dex has to get away, but they could really put us throught the wringer, He could get arrested, have to stand trial, etc. but I don't expect that. I certainly don't want to go through it - ha ha! This week has been hell!He could get away, but Deb finds out. Or Rita. I wouldn't want to see that, either. Deb would completely lose her confidence as a cop. Rita would never trust a man again. The funniest thing in the world would be if Deb married Lundy, and Dex had to be his best man. Can't you just hear the voice in his head as they said their "I do's" - hee. Is there a way for Dex to win without Lundy losing? Doakes would solve both their problems. 3 hours, 20 minutes and counting. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We've kinda talked about this on another thread ("Does Agt. Lundy have a secret?",) that maybe Lundy could mentally justify Dex only killing to protect the innocent, that Deb may ultimately end up saving Dexter (from Lundy?), and yeah, that maybe Lundy is a little warped in his own thinking. As re: the possible extra handcuffs, and more Lundy "spanking" Deb--don't get my hopes up! Can't wait for tonight's episode to see how Dexter wrigggles out of this one!
