I don't necessarily think it was foreshadowing, but more just an expression of Dexter's anxiety, which BTW has been noticeably growing as the plot continues. This is a series about a serial killer that is learning to be more human. What could more human than anxiety?

They really emphasized the difference between Dexter and Doakes in this episode. They're almost certainly going to kill Doakes. I hope a lot of people don't get disappointed when Dexter turns out to be a serial killer and not much more. That scene at the cabin was important - he had Doakes there begging him not to kill that guy, and he did it anyway, almost gleefully. He only showed any real emotion when Doakes' reaction reminded him of his father.
