are all these pornographic scenes, especially with lila's breasts, a marketing tool? if so, they're acting more as a turn-off to me. i understand the mass appeal of over dramatic plot lines but what makes this show is its ability to be unconventional. the more pornographic and violent it becomes, the more mainstream and unoriginal it will be. that is not the appeal of dexter. for now, i still love it, michael c. hall is so talented. 7  out of 17 found this valuable. I agree. I could do without the bedroom humping scenes also. Please take note, dexgal & ARayne, they did not do this with Deb and Lundy. Sex, as with bodily dismemberment, is really best left to the imagination.

I really don't feel that these scenes are intended to be senselessly pornographic. Dexter's relationship with Rita is very wholesome and healthy. It is a reflection of the facade that he puts on for those around him. In contrast, his relationship with Lila is very passionate and intense, reflecting the secret life that Dexter lives. The "bedroom humping scenes" with Dexter and Lila do not show mere humping, but rather a very physical, sometimes borderline violent relationship. It's this relationship that is one of the ways Dexter begins to really get a grasp on and accept who he is. That said, I have wanted to beat the crap out of Lila since Dexter first had coffee with her. I can't stand her. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Noted, GPuffer! I agree. Really great actors don't have to show everything to convey a mood, feeling, whatever, I can't articulate it. I like those old movies where Gary Grant slowly closes the door...and we get to imagine what happens...

I agree. Part of my feeling this way is that Showtime overdoes this on every series and it gets old for me. To show Dexter and Rita in bed afterwards, sharing the close moment, well, that does it for me a lot more than watching them in action. I understand why others might not feel the same way.

Although I normally find sex scenes unnecessary - the ones shown here show the relationship between the characters. With Dex and Lila it's like animalistic and rough, like they are battling. But yeah - I hate Lila too! :O) Do you find this valuable?

Actually, as I sit on my couch watching the finale (again) and typing here SHO had a prevfiew for the next season of The L Word - OMG there were more than 10 sex scenes in like 30 seconds. I do think showtime is overdoing the sex. Come on people - give us (the viewers) some credit. We'll watch a show for good plots and storylines, not just naked people and girl on girl action. I always preferred the awkward shyness of Dex and Rita over the flaming gratuitousness of the Dex and Lila scenes. I've discussed this with user ZizzyB23 (yo! what's up!?) and I think Showtime feels it has an obligation to "reward" its subscribers with some nudity. I was really turned off by Lila's boobies and I'm not a prude. I can definitely appreciate the need for the sex scenes in regard to character development but because Dex cheated on Rita and had WAY hotter sex with Lila, I can't say I enjoyed watching it.

Well said, Cyndawg! I don't watch some shows on Showtime anymore because of how sex is presented...
