You make both a valid point and an invalid point. Dexter is a killer and is not seen as evil but it has nothing to do with the fact that he is male. His killing is deemed acceptable by the viewers because it is supposed to. He is the focal point and has a set of morals. He is the "Hero" of the show. He punishes the "wicked" and we know about him and his child hood and his life and it is all set up for us to not only accept Dexter but to embrace him. Though they are twisted, he still has some. Lila is a different story. She is not seen as evil because she is female. She is deemed "Bad" because of what she does and how she does it. Dexter wouldn't have put the lives of the children in danger just for revenge. He wouldn't have framed a good and innocent man just to get back at someone. Lila did all this and more. Though they both do "bad" things, Dexter's are, in the end, the lesser of 2 evils. Most people, if given a choice, would rather a known murderer be killed than choosing to burn 2 innocent children. See the point. She was vindictive and spiteful. Dexter was not. He did kill but what he did. who he killed and the manner in which his victims were chosen and executed would be the more socially acceptable of the 2 killers. So, climb down from your soap box. Not everything is sexist. Sometimes women play the villain. Season 1 was a man, season 2 was a woman. Where I come from, we call the equality. Besides, it is sexist to think that women shouldn't be the bad guy. They are capable of the same atrocities that men are. I am glad she was the villain and I am glad Dexter offed her. Personally, I wish he had been able to do it up in the way he enjoys. She got off light. :) -Boom 7 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

Heavens!! The fact that she is a female is not my point. My point was that Lila was one of those women who are irresistable and lethal.I've met men who also fit that profile. They might not actually kill, but they are destroyers. Dexter is great! He is so charmingly damaged. Secretly many of us wish justice could be that swift. No my comment was not an equality issue. I've been around long enough to have known many "lethal" women. I suppose what I meant to say was men and women react differently to the same situations. I glory in the difference between men and women. I adore my husband and my sons, but I know that I am better at explaining the motives of women than men. I have a wish list for Dexter. Sexual predators (male and female) cannot be rehabilitated, just as a heterosexual cannot be "changed" into homosexual. We are what we are. Dexter could prevent so much pain if he'd "off" them. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

I wasn't responding to you, sesack4th. I was responding to the first comment on the thread by LilaT. Next time I will quote it. Sorry for the confusion. She was implementing that Dexter was Kosher because he was male. Be cool, I remain....-Boom 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Killing Lila was a show killer. The strength of any story are its characters. They simply wrote Lila too well. By forcing us (viewers) who have no say in the matter (except to stop watching) to watch the show kill off the best characters (his brother, Doakes, Lila) and leave us with Rita (the character is boring, but the actress is extremely talented) is a recipe for suicide. Dexter needed Doakes just as Batman needs the Joker. Without a counter-balance to make the protagonist's life Hell, a story weakens. We don't need another run-of-the-mill "cop" story, even if this one is a serial killer. I realize that serial killers "kill" but professional writers "write.' they don't savagely butcher stories until the audience walks away. I for one am gone. I was a HUGE fan of Dexter (Seasons One and most of Two), but I feel they really f****d up this time. They painted Lila as a true soulmate whose crime as to fight for what she believed in. Also, if you go back and watch carefully, you will see how positive an effect she had on Dexter. It was because of her that he has been able to process so much of the pain and confusion that he has been experiencing in Season One. As to Rita (not the actress, who is again "amazing") but the character. Is anyone silly enough (Dexter) to believe thats he will accept even a hint of who he is? She dumped him for having sex AFTER he dumped him. She dumped him (rightfully so) for thinking he was "another Paul," and she sure as hell would freak completely to find her children were bing coddled by "The Bay Harbor Butcher." They dropped the ball by removing the very characters that drive the story, and now the writer's strike has stolen the momentum the show was building. How long until we see a new dexter (I know I said i was "done" but I might peek). Unfortunately as Dumbledore told Harry "Dead is dead." Goodbye Lila. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well, most of that is your opinion which you are entitled to, but the bit about the writer's strike is incorrect. By the time the writer's strike happened season 2 was in the can. It is not a shortened season 2 like with network shows, if you don't believe me compare the length of season 1 to season 2, they are the same. The strike is now nearing its end and we are still months away from when production would normally start for season 3. Dexter's momentum has not been changed one iota.

Dust Bunny -- I happen to think Lila was the most fabulous character (outside of Dexter) in the first two seasons. Brian didn't do anything for me. I think LaGuerta is going to be a great danger to Dexter than Doakes ever was. Outside of her return to church when she falsely accused the security guard at the ice rink, she has been a coniving amoral, immoral *itch! Now that she is Doakes' champion, she will be relentless and cunning. At the end of the day, until next season starts, how can you know the show won't be great? As long as you have Dexter, Deborah, Angel, and yes, Rita -- Mary Anne to Lila's Ginger, you'll have plenty of character horsepower ... I know a number on this thread and site are pining for the return of a certain FBI agent ... 1 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

She threatened the children, and Dexter would never hurt an innocent, which she intended to. It's against the rules. She also killed an innocent by making Doakes go BOOM. Her an her "tits" had it coming. No that Lila is gone... i don't have to worry about my show turning into a soft-core porn!

I dont think Dexter really wouldve offed Dokes. He wouldnt have been able to go through with it. Lila tried to kill Dexter, Rita and the kids and successfully killed Dokes. According to Harrys Code of Honor, Lila deserved to die. She was a shoddy character to begin with. Lila would kill anyone without any remorse. Dexter had every reason to kill her. But hey, who am I to tell you how to feel about a character. I just dont see how you can be so partial to someone like Lila if youre also partial to Dexter.

Rita is hiding something. Every character on the show is hiding something. Rita is going to bloom in Season 3, hide and watch.

Lila was a good character but she f-ed with the wrong ppl. Rita might be boring for now, but she has to have some skeletons in her closet and I'm sure they will be killing that goodie two shoes persona about her real soon!! as far as Doakes goes, I think they will write him back into the script seeing how they only found a black male's body with no mention of dental records being examined. Hope this season is great!! Michelle4 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

The actress who portrayed Lila is no doubt an excellent actress... not to mention so freakin hot! But Lila as a character in Dexter, hmm... I would say if Dexter didnt kill her, she will be a quick sand for him. She will try to control Dexter and make him someone else like the first few episodes of season 2, Gosh i hate it when i see Dexter cannot do his kill. So i would say as the code 1 say: Do not get caught. Lila really should be killed. But we never know what will happen in Season 3. I cant wait!!!

I will miss Doakes but NOT Lila!! What was with her lips and teeth anyway??? Dexter had to get rid of her, if she hadn't tried to kill the kids he may have let her live... Doakes was great, I didn't want Dexter to get caught but didn't want Doakes to die either... can't have it both ways I guess! It sux that his family and all of Miami believe he was a murderer..

Lila ... how do I miss thee ... let me count the ways ...1. thy actressing skills (oh, that wasn't you, but rather the actress -- no matter ... I attribute same to thee ...) 2. thy hotness ... do I go for the palest of skins tones contrasted with cole black hair ... not really ... but on thee ... and in the context of the show ... ahhhh ... divine ... 3. thy not-Rita-ness ... can a negation be a turn on ... maybe the fact that I do adore Rita (I do I do I do I do) does make you a fantasy more about my own psychic disturbance than thee... and yet it is thy face I see when making friends with my shadow ... LOL!! Alas James ... I feel nor find no poetic thoughts in thy regard ... LOL!! 3 out of 7 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I was such a fan of Dexter- but was very upset about Lila. I guess I am like the only person who actually loved the character Lila- she was his soul mate . People are quick to judge her, forgetting that they admire a serial killer (oh that's right he is a "good" serial killer"-lol) please- I like the show, but if it is cool with everyone for Dex to kill-why such the hatred of Lila? Is it because she is not making excuses for her true nature? I guess it is cool to be a killer only if you are a dude? He was going to do Doakes himself ,so that was a lame excuse to kill her. That was a great Gothic love story and I think a huge mistake to kill off that character. Rita is boring. "I do admit that Rita is boring, but I don't like what she did to Dexter. His whole life was kept in the shadows and safe because of the code that Harry taught him. She wanted him to completely change the way he looked at things, to confront his past and to try and "move on". Thats all fine and dandy if you are anything BUT a serial killer. In order for him to stay safe, he needs to remain emotionless and she brought the emotions out. As for Doakes, I will actually admit that it sucks he's gone. You knew as soon as he found Dexter that he was either going to die or the show would end, lol. Doakes was just doing his job as a good cop but it didn't end well for him. 6 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

I agree that it should be a dream sequence. Makes me wonder what makes people even like the show if they are more interested in Deb and Lundy ? to each their own. She saved Dex's butt, period. I also like Romeo and Juliet, so am a sucker for the whole tragic love and ultimate demonstrations of loyalty. It is crap that all these ppl make fun of you, they better not try that silliness with me. I like who I like and that is my choice. She lifted the show to a higher level as far as in a literary sense. The rest borders on soap opera, average characters and their dull love scenes. common on TV. Now add a character that is not rigidly defined as what is either "good" or "evil" in this society and ppl get uncomfortable. america is where all deserve an opinion, and those who insult you are a disgrace to what freedom of speech is, to debate without stooping to insults. pplw not skilled in arguement and debate, get desperate and turn 10 years old "oh yeahh, well you are smelly" kind of response. It os better to be a sheperd, but to say you sheperd souls is a tad "unique". Dexter is great because it makes people question their own morals. To close, china pale skin and long dar hair is beautiful.
