I will miss Lila and even Doakes

I was such a fan of Dexter- but was very upset about Lila. I guess I am like the only person who actually loved the character Lila- she was his soul mate . People are quick to judge her, forgetting that they admire a serial killer (oh that's right he is a "good" serial killer"-lol) please- I like the show, but if it is cool with everyone for Dex to kill-why such the hatred of Lila? Is it because she is not making excuses for her true nature? I guess it is cool to be a killer only if you are a dude? He was going to do Doakes himself ,so that was a lame excuse to kill her. That was a great Gothic love story and I think a huge mistake to kill off that character. Rita is boring. 43  out of 116 found this valuable. Do you?

TOTALLY AGREE LILA WAS SMOKIN,[ think a better ending would have her in Paris usesing dexters tool to be him} DOAKES WAS A GREAT ADVESERY but there was no where to go with him 11  out of 24 found this valuable. Do you?

I liked Lila she kepted me wanting more. I didn't like Doakes from the start. I agree with you that Rita is boaring me. She needs to step up or be gone from the show. 10  out of 26 found this valuable. Do you?

The same reason that Dexter killed his brother instead of joining him. Lila represents a road better left untraveled. She is reckless and without self control, two things that Dexter is not and should not be if he wants to remain free. I think that Lila has served her purpose and it was correct to end her involvement with the ending of this story arch and make everything fresh and new for season 3. 22  out of 29 found this valuable. But like the books, being with "boring" Rita is his disguise. A means to fit in to the human world. Lila would have him lose what he has build. She stood out, and that is what he has always tried to avoid... 14  out of 21 found this valuable. Do you?

I see your point, I just found her character very engaging and never really learned much about her and her background. I suppose one can't actually ever truly know and still be with Dex. Does anyone think he could kill off Rita if she was a source of trouble- like finding out about him etc...? I just can't see the show just returning to Dex going after one criminal after another, I see no happy ending in sight, and that bums me a bit. Say Dex comes clean..life in prison or death row (Florida has the death pen. right? or no). I am a writer, but this show has me scratching my head as to possible scenarios (ps- not a writer for the show-just a writer).

You have no idea how long I have been saying that, actually I have been a Lila supporter since she was first showed on Dexter and I am still hoping to this day that the whole Finale was just one big dream sequance...hey I can dream can't I? anyways I have been such a big Lila supporter that on many posts I got flamed, insulted, and kicked from the main SHOtime forums for Dexter...all because I supported Lila...people just insulted me left and right and they started to call me all sorts of meanfull names...so I insulted back of course, I don't sit back and take those things, and what happens? they ban me from the forums not the people who started it initially, but me...it seems as if nobody likes Lila even though I have made many justifications for this, but don't think your the only one who loves Lila, because there are a great deal of people who loved her character much more than Rita, and I am one of them, but of course on this Wiki most people seemed t be obsessed with the whole Deb + Lundy relationship, so I haven't got insulted or dissed for likeing Lila yet, which is nice, but anyways it was most obvious that Lila and Dexter are ment to be together, and truth is they should be, so many reasons but yet I have typed them so many times before and people just insulted me and that really hurts too see somebody like me who enjoys a character so much, then too see another person say soo much bad things about her for the worst reasons, and its actually quite simple to see why they hate her now, people who dislike Lila are the people with dull boring lifes filled with no adventure, and do everything in life like they are told, in other words they are sheep, but unlike them I am the Sheperd, the Sheperd of all their Souls.

I can understand that people will be sad because Lila had to die. But what brings a great story is complications. If dexter had left with Lila or Brian he'd been carefree and it wouldn't be interesting to watch anymore. Rita may be a little boring as a character, but her seriousness and how hard she fights gives a greater depth to dexters situation than Lila could offer. Not to forget her kids, what will they think about the painting of the evil Dexter? :)

At least I hope that she affected his life, so he's not back to square one again. Even though she's dead there must be a continuing of her influences, which leads him closer to the inferno. Like additional secrets, lurking about, threatening his existance.

A couple thoughts on Lila ...

1. whoever the actress is behind the character is fabulous;
2. the Lila character was just over the top wonderful -- and charmingly evil;
3. I, too, will miss her ... most of all for that wonderful purring way she said "Dexxxxttter ..."
4. I've pitched the idea in two other threads that I'm not convinced she is dead ... I suspect a "dream" based on Dexter's desire to clean things up ... why?
a. different lighting ... half the show is shot in the dark, but this had a film-noir quality that was a different production dynamic;
b. the obvious reasons -- how did he find her so quick? how did he leave the country and return without his absence getting discussed and queried by Deb and others?
c. Dexter is coming back in season 3 and what better foil and danger element than that of someone who knows his secret ... and who is literally "a woman scorned" ... wow, that could be scorching -- no pun intended.
5. I personally adore Rita, too ... I see nothing mutually exclusive in loving both of them ... good girl / bad girl internal dilemma and dialog !!!
6. I wouldn't get too upset over the prevailing emotions toward her ...

I honestly hope that you are corrrect in your posit that Lila is not ead, but Dexter only dreamed killing her. Jaime Murray made the character really worth watching. I also started a thread, that if Lila really was killed, did Dexter get some information from Lundy before he left about where to find Lila...? Just a thought...

I too will miss them both. both were great characters but had to die.
Remember Rule #1... never get caught. Both Doakes and Lila knew of Dexters true addiction and he had to nip that in the bud... loose lips sink ships.. "Slice of Life" stays afloat!

Dexter is OK because A. He never hurts the innocent. B. He's funny. C. He's hot! Lila is frowned upon because A. She's creepy in a way that Dexter isn't B. Her only known kill was the burning death of her boyfriend (run Dexter run!) C. She's a skinny bitch automatically making all us chubbies loath her. D. She tried to kill Astor & Cody!!!

Yes, I loved her tutorial to Dexter when they had sex. Also it was odd that getting frisky with Rita was so hard for Dexter, boy with Lila "Let me at 'er!"
Do we know when Dex killed Lila? It could have been at any time after she got to Paris. Days weeks whenever.

I agree, because Lila was in fact more evil than Dexter. She's the same as his brother, without any respect for the innocents.

Wouldn't it be a great movie if Brian and Lila could have become involved? With all sorts of bloodless barbeques? Dean Koontz has just written a novel "Darkest Night of The Year" with Brian and Lila act-alikes. They lure victims to their lighthouse, and the female Vannessa (Lil a type) has a child with Downs syndrome trying to remain sane through all this.

Can't you just go on and be happy with what have been given? There are other interesting kinds of characters that can bring new light to the story. That was what I liked about Dexter, they brought alot of interesting characters along the way. Some can stay and some must go to make the world alive. 4  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

I didn't think I was expressing any unhappiness about the character changes. I really liked Doakes, especially since he was the only cop with valid instincts about Dexter. When it semed that there was a future for Doakes and Deb I was quite pleased because he is the least psycho of any of her other men (Lundy included) Lila was a sexy psychotic that is so attractive to many man-moths looking to get burned. Dexter showed more "human-ness" with her than any of his other fellow travelers in life. Deb seems way more messed up that Dexter, I mean she is nothing but issues. Dexter's bewilderment with human behavior, especially that of women, seems to me to be the honest attitude of most men.
