"mmm, not exactly stand out roles but we live in hope."Don't get your knickers in a twist about that. While the Oscars (not Prado) are more prestigeous, the MTV awards are more like 'youth approved' awards. And they are more fun award, as you can see - 'Best Frightening Performance'. (I beleive that is a term used Down Under, correct? Hope you feel right at home. Do you find this valuable? |

"LOL - Tim Robbins? He's been in so many cool movies. Did you know he was Merlin in Top Gun? I'm one of the only people I know of that like The Hudsucker Proxy - he's awesome in that. And Mystic River as well. Really great actor. Well, he always has a "Tim Robbin-ness" to him, so I guess maybe he's not as so obviously diverse as the Dex, but so far as being effective in his roles, he's got something :)"Tim Robbins was great in Mystic River. His performance in the final scene made me cry cry cry cry cry. I was in hysterics. To this day, I've never quite had a reaction like that to any movie. I don't know if that makes him my favorite actor though. Most of the emotion came from the scene itself and the situation. So heartbreaking. He's absolutely great though. I agree. Michael C. Hall is my favorite right now. Movies have been terrible lately and broadcast TV isn't as honest as some of the cable shows. I never saw Six Feet Under. I always wanted to. Is it really melodramatic? It seems like a gloomy show. I'm sure there's dry humor in there. Just wondering it it's perhaps too dry. I've heard great things. MCH's hair has improved since SFU though. He doesn't even look like the same guy! Do you find this valuable? |

If it doesn't matter, why ask the question. He is abviously straight! Have you seen pictures of him with different ladies in magazines. He's abviously been around the block a couple of times. Need I remind you, he was married. Anyway listen, MCH is a fantistic actor, I woundn't want him any other way. If people are speculating, that makes him interesting, don't you think? I love him the way he is. It doen't matter.

"It's melodramatic but saracastic and funny as well. It's got the whole range of emotions in it. It is well worth seeing."I second that. It can be pretty confronting at times, with all the deaths, and also frustrating, because that's because the characters are all like the most fucked up people you've ever met in real life, but are still realistic. But in between that there's just some life-affirming moments, many mind-blowing scenes and lots and lots of dark humour. I especially loved all the random musical numbers and druggie scenes. Ruth on ecstacy - hilarious! Plus, David and Keith (who incidentally was played by another straight actor) were the most complex and interesting gay couple I've ever seen on TV. No stereotypes or histrionics, just two normal people struggling to love and live with each other - who just happen to be gay. I think I overcame a lot of my prejudices about gay people from watch them. You'll see some familiar things in SFU as well (not just MCH) - the conversations with his dead father, the imagined reactions that aren't really happening. And what other TV show would open a series with scenes based on quantum theory of physics (the Schroedinger's cat beginning to season 3). Do you find this valuable? |

"I agree MCH is superb however i think he is better in SFU as he has a broader pallet on which to show his acting range. Not that he's not great on Dexter but, he has more of a range of emotions on SFU.In Dexter he is restricted by character however in SFU he has the repressed homosexuality and once he comes out ,it opens up even more of a magicians bag of tricks in his acting ability.Would love to see him break into film properly."I can't really split the performances. I don't see much of a difference, difficulty-wise, in portraying someone who's dealing with all those kinds of repressed emotions, to portraying someone who doesn't know that he has all kinds of repressed emotions. Both characters have to deal with the sides of themselves that they hide from others (in Dexter's case, serial killing, in David's... some of the ways his sexuality presents itself, such as having sex with male prostitutes, being sexually attracted to psychotic hitchhikers, wanting and then rejecting monogamy with Keith, wanting a child...) Also, playing Dexter would be much more work for MCH. He has more scenes that David did, all those voiceovers to record, and it's his perormance that basically determines the success of the series..If he's not believable as both a sympathetic character and a sadistic killer, the show falls on its arse. "I second that.Totally agree,it was the best viewing I have had in ages.I hired all the box sets one after the other and couldn't get enough of it.Very realistic characters, well written and brilliantly acted. This is where i first saw MCH and that got me onto Dexter. Go out and hire it before the next season of Dexter people. Do you find this valuable? |

"I can't really split the performances. Not being an actor i'm not sure how easy or difficult it would be to portray either character. Certainly David was deeply layered in SFU and you gradually got to see him laid bare. As for Dexter he may be slowly revealing himself and certainly the narration assists with his thoughts about his character. However the character doesn't have a whole range of emotions to show as of yet (this may develop later if he has the baby and a wife to deal with and the series progresses) and ,on the face of it, it appears a slightly easier role in my opinion.A tradesman can only work with the tools at his disposal so to speak. I agree that there is more work for MCH re onscreen time and narration however i don't think his acting ability is stretched as far as SFU. Who knows maybe MCH is doing a bit of method acting and stalking the streets at night for his research? It would be interesting to hear his thoughts on both characters and their respective difficulties.(i'm sure Dexter would be slightly easier as well due to the fact he gets to see his girlfriend every day..or maybe not !) Good to have the discussion with you. Do you find this valuable? |

Actually, MCH said that before doing the role he decided to find people on the street in New York City, decide that they were bad and follow them around without being noticed, to see what that experience was like. He didn't kill them though! (or at least, I hope not!) Also, Dex DOES have emotions, even if he doesn't realise it. He certainly has anger, fear and disgust - primal emotions - but we've also seen him display sadness and confusion at the prospect of his relationship with Rita breaking down, concern for Deb when she was being kidnapped by the ITK and what looks like genuine warmth and affection towards Deb and pride in her achievements. In the opening scene of About Last Night, when he was smiling to himself as he sat on the sofa with Rita, I think we saw flickers of real relief and happiness that finally he wasn't alone and that Miguel understood and accepted him for who he was. I've noticed that a few people who have tried to get into Dexter and can't say that it's because he is creepy, and even in Season 3 I still get that from him. There's just something not quite there with him in the scenes where he's pretending to be normal, and that's tribute to MCH's ability to convey that. Incidentally, I get the same vibes from Miguel too... Do you find this valuable? |
