"I think that as the seasons go along, dexter will essentially become more "human". I think that all of those emotions that have been shut off for so long will eventually break through. Affection, love, anger, etc. will all eventually shine through. Sadly I wonder if the great irony of the show will be that once Dexter realizes that he really is human, and happy and stops killing because he finds he doesn't need to anymore. That the insatiable need to do these terrible things are gone, he will be caught or killed."
