Quick question. Why was the episode called, "I Had a Dream?" What was the dream? Do you find this valuable?

Watching the episode again, I realized another thing I really like.

I like the fact that Dexter can sometime seem like the villain. We all know he's the hero and love him and presumably support what he does, but the way he acts sometimes can make him seem like HE'S the bad guy, and I really like that.

Imagine if somebody was foolish enough to jump into Dexter during the last five minutes of the last episode. They'd see Miguel on the table and Dexter above him talking down to him. I could imagine people might think Dexter's the evil one. The way he whispers in his ear, tells him he killed Miguel's brother. I really, really like that they aren't making Dexter into some sort of honorable vigilante killer. I like to see his true dark side sometimes.

Even last season, the way he manipulated people and everything. Let that innocent man get held in custody so he could get Doakes fired. Anybody else enjoy seeing Dexter like this?

Yeah totally, it's wicked when he brings out that side of him for sure.

Just the way he said "I killed your brother." That was so evil... but so awesome.

Okay, know this might sound crazy, but I have a weird feeling about this episode. First of all, it's called "I had a dream", and usually, even if it's in a strange way, they tie the title into the episode.. this one didn't really happen unless you picked up on what I picked up on, which was at the very end after Dexter had "killed" Miguel, you'll notice the screen and the way they filmed it was quite unusual as far as how they normally film it. It went all black-grayish and slowed down into one still shot of Dexter...

Could this possibly mean that Dexter had DREAMT about killing Miguel??
"I had a dream" and the way the show ended was quite peculiar to me. Let me know what you guys think.

I said the same thing in my post back on the first page...it is a big possibility so I wouldn't rule it out.

Did anyone notice that on the Channel Guide, the "I Had a Dream" episode didn't have any information written about what was going to happen? Usually it has a brief description of events that take place in that episode, but I think the producers wanted everyone to think Dexter was kidnapped by the Skinner instead of by the bachelor party people, so they didn't give any info to keep the surprise. I liked what another post said about the title - that Dexter had a dream about having a friend, but in the end that dream fades away. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Its definitely a possibility, but I think I'd feel a little betrayed if that was the case. What a cop-out. Based on the previews for next week it would look like it wasn't a dream, however we all know how misleading those can be.

Perhaps it was called "I Had a Dream" just in reference to the optimism Dexter had in thinking he could have a friend in Miguel and that nothing would go wrong. Obviously that wasn't the case. What a dream indeed!

Martin Luther King made the comment famous, “I have a dream”. I think the writers may have used that to say I had a Dream, meaning Dexter had always envisioned, hoped, that someday he would have a friend that would know everything about him. But in the end, Miguel had to be killed; therefore the past tense, I had a dream. A dream that will no longer have a chance of becoming a reality. Do you find this valuable?

"And by that, I mean it feels GOOD to be right.

And also, what about Yuki? Did that story line wrap up and I wasn't paying attention?

And the baby? Is this really going to happen? I'm sure the wedding will but I'm not convinced about the baby. I know anything can happen in Dexter, but this doesn't sound too unlikely: imagine next episode Dexter gets kidnapped by the skinner on the wedding day, Rita gets so stressed and worried, and she miscarries the baby.

I can't put my finger on it but I really don't want the baby to happen. Not yet at least. It'll change the shows dynamic too much. Let's save that for the finale of next season, or perhaps the series finale!

And I guess I've pretty much given up hope on seeing the ghost of Doakes in this. It would've been real nice to see him again. Poor Erik King. He played his part SO WELL the writers decided to kick him out of the show. Now how is he suppose to feed his children? They owe him a small cameo at least. He could've appeared to Dexter like Harry does.

And once more PLEASE NO SPOILERS PEOPLE!"
How old are you? It feels good to be right.

I said in another thread that the black and white at the end may mean that AFTER Dexter killed Miguel, all of the crazy stuff that was previewed for next week is a dream, except for maybe the marriage.
On the other hand, it also seems fitting that the black and white goes hand in hand with the title 'I had A Dream' ... the dream of finally having a friend, which is now coming to a close, and the black and white may symbolize Dexter returning to his simple (black and white) way of life, not attempting to have true personal relationships and just go on with his charade.

I personally thought the black and white was a metaphor for his persona itself. The dark passenger vs. the mask of sanity. After his kill he was in vertigo, thus the duality of the two colors.

"We've only got about 50 more minutes of Dexter this season. They've got a lot of ground to cover. I have full confidence that they will pull it off though. Mike, you must be psyched to see Rita in a wedding dress. I'm sure she'll look gorgeous."
I saw "Rita" on a talk show this week and I didn't know who it was at first. She can clean up and look HOT!
All women are beautiful in a wedding dress.

I don't know how they tied up so many loose ends in one episode, but the only cliff hanger till next season that I see is what Deb will do with the info about Harry. I'm sure some people were disappointed because there was so little time devoted to the wedding, but maybe that's a reflection of how important the wedding was to Dexter?? Although he did seem to be enthusiastic about it after such a narrow escape from the Skinner. So now we start the 9 month countdown to next season.

I realize I'm a little late to the conversation, but the first thing that came to mind with the “I had a dream” title was the lyrics to the song “Some People” from the musical “Gypsy.” Mama Rose is having an argument with her father about leaving home and striking out on her own. Which she does, but eventually winds up nutters.

“I had a dream, a wonderful dream, papa / All about June in the Orpheum circuit / Gimme a chance, I know I can work it “

Goofy maybe (...definitely), but the episode titles are often skewed and campy/funny. “Let’s Give the Boy a Hand”, “Go Your Own Way”, "Love American Style”, "Return to Sender”, "Born Free”, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"...all song titles.

I just felt compelled to share that. I thank you for your time.
