60. RE: Thoughts on "I Had a Dream"
Nov 4 2009, 2:09 AM EST
"Quick question. Why was the episode called, "I Had a Dream?" What was the dream?"I believe Dex's dream throughout much of his adult life was to have a friend and also someone he could confide in and tell his dark secrets to. Miguel represented what Dex thought was the incarnation of his dream... something he never thought would actually happen, only to painfully figure out in this episode that his dream can never come true and he is doomed to his true dark inner self living a life of loneliness and secrecy. I thought the ending of this episode was fantastic the way he tells Miguel that he in-fact was his little brothers killer, right before he kills him... I like to see that dark side of Dexter every once in a while. It is also very artistic and full of symbolism the way the writers played the episode off so perfectly with the scene fading off from colorized slowly to black and white, symbolizing Miguel's life slowly fading away at the same time and Dexter reverting back to a lonely dark dweller with no confidantes. If you notice... the song that they play in the background while the screen is fading to black and white as Miguel is dying is Track 20 from the Dexter Soundtrack "House", which is played in various parts of different episodes in Season 1 where Dexter is very alone. The awesome twist on the song is that it's played backwards in this scene, presumably to symbolize Dexter reverting back to a solitary being as Miguel is dying and his acceptance of the undeniable truth of his perennial destiny to be a loner. Awesome! Do you find this valuable? |
