Rita confronts Dexter regarding what happened to Paul and presents Paul's shoe as evidence relating Paul's story and his accusations about Dexter. Dexter confesses he did hit Paul to protect Rita and the children but that it was impromtu, not planned. Knowing what happened that is certainly the impression left when the viewer sees the events unfold in the previous episode. While Dexter several times comments about how easy it would be to end Paul's threat he does not seem to be planning anything. When the even occurs it certainly seems to have been in a moment of passion as it were and unexpected even to Dexter. In the aftermath Dexter is scrambling to do something with Paul. When Rita confronts him regarding the heroin he tells the truth, he stole it. This is what he reveals before the confession in his inner dialogue so the viewer knows this is the truth. however, when Rita questions how Dexter's actions could have been unplanned if he previous stole the heroin from lockup, Dexter is stymied. When Rita accuses him of using, he then acquieses to the lie as the "easier" path, the more defensible I suppose and the one she is more ready to hear. What confuses me is this. If as Dexter tells the viewer he did steal the heroin, how and when did he do that and why. It seems to support what Rita contends that he must have been planning the action against Paul or Dexter himself is a drug addict. On the other hand that would contradict Dexter's dialogue to the viewer that the action was in the heat of passion and unplanned. Do you find this valuable?

"When Dexter states he stole the heroin from lockup, Rita questions why he had it if what he did was inpromptu with Paul. So, why did Dexter have the heroin and where did he get it. Earlier he states in his mental dialogue that he stole it so that seems to be ther real story."Season two was my least favorite season, and this is one of the smaller reasons why that is. Dexter is telling the truth actually, but he says in his voice over that he couldn't lie to her. He didn't need to lie to her! He was telling the truth. He could've said the entire truth without lying once because it didn't involve him killing anyone, but he didn't. She asked, "How did you know how much to give a big guy like Paul?". How about he's a forensics guy and knows about chemicals and stuff? Sometimes I guess we have to forgive the writers for poor writing if it gets somewhere in the story. Another example would be in season three when Dexter is trying to kill Freebo, and he sneaks into his house while the music is blaring. I'd imagine Dexter would actually want music NOT playing so he could hear where Freebo was in the house in relation to himself and sneak up on him appropriately. Because the music was blasting well, we all saw what happened. Do you find this valuable? |
